Schools from around the country are taking advantage of free military gear. As we saw in Ferguson this gear in not needed. In fact all of this military gear does is turn small protests into riots. Once people see the military gear, a switch goes off and suddenly it’s a war-zone. That is just what happens, when people are threatened, some fight back. Now, granted Ferguson was also a staged training event, which you can see here. However why are schools receiving free military gear? According to Detroit News, schools can receive surplus military gear for their officers. They have received MRAPS, M16’s, and Grenade launchers. Does this sound like your local college? No, this sounds like a war zone. The question remains, why do police and school police need such heavy artillery, unless there is a war? The origin of schools receiving military gear began directly after Columbine in 1999. Now, after Ferguson, some colleges are returning the gear.
For example, “The Los Angeles Unified School District — the nation’s second largest school district covering 710 square miles and enrolling more than 900,000 students — said in a statement this week that it would it would remove three grenade launchers it had acquired under the program in 2001 because they “are not essential life-saving items within the scope, duties and mission” of the district’s police force. But the district plans to keep the 60 M16s and a MRAP — a military vehicle used in Iraq and Afghanistan that is built to withstand mine blasts — it received” Schools are playing the good Samaritan card and acting as though they are returning the surplus gear. However they are returning a couple of items and winning over the hearts of many. Do not be fooled!
Schools do not need this kind of gear! This gear is a threat to our kids. As well as military gear on the streets does not make anyone feel safer. In fact, it makes people more aware of just bad our country is right now. The US government has ordered millions of hollow point rounds, and also have taken advantage of the military surplus program. Currently we live in a police state, but are you ready for Martial Law?
